Education Literature Reviews: A Special Type of Reviews

Education is a science and art combined. To be a good teacher means to be a psychologist, an educator, a guide, etc. To be a good teacher means that one should be a skilled practitioner, a skilled tactician, and a theorist as well.

If you are a would-be teacher, it means that sooner or later you will be asked to write an educational literature review. Probably, you have already written usual literary reviews. Educational literature reviews share some common features of usual literature review but they also have some features that are typical of them only. Let us consider both common and special features of educational literature reviews.

Just to remind you, here are these common principles of writing a review of a literary source:

• Writing an educational literature review, present a short summary of the source that is under study. However, do not reduce your educational literature review to mere summary of the source. Your task is not to summarize, your task is to analyze.
• In your educational literature review, show the strong points of the theory or other information presented in the analyzed source. 
• It is also necessary to pay your attention to the drawbacks of the source in your educational literature review.

The special feature of an educational literature review is its practical orientation. If you want to write a good educational literature review, you should describe the way you would apply the information of the source in practice. Theory in the sphere of education is worth nothing unless it can be applied in practice. A good choice will be to suggest some improvements of the author’s theory in your educational literature reviews.
