Turabian Citation Style may be used in any class or course of study, including humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
Turabian Citation Style suggests 2 different systems of documentation: a notes system used in humanities, history and art, and an in-text parenthetical system (the author-date system), used in the social, natural and physical sciences.
The difference in two types of referencing consists in the use of footnotes (i. e. notes at the bottom of the page) or endnotes (i. e. notes at the end of the paper on a separate sheet) to acknowledge sources. This means that you are to use a superscript number in your paper to identify an idea or quote which were borrowed from someone else.
Referencing in Turabian Citation Style presupposes three parts of an academic paper:
- the front matter — title page, copyright page, dedication, epigraph, tables of contents, lists of illustrations, acknowledgements;
- the text;
- the back — appendixes, endnotes, bibliography.
Turabian citation sample should be double-spaced, except for an intented block quotes, which can be single-spaced. Bibliographies, footnotes and itemized lists should be single-spaced.
Turabian style papers use one of two forms of citations. The traditional Turabian style paper uses footnotes or endnotes with a bibliography. The newer Turabian style paper uses parenthetical notations with a Works Cited page at the end of the paper. Both variants are acceptable and your choice may depend much on your professor’s taste.
- Arrange the items on your reference list alphabetically
- Indent the second and following lines 5 spaces.
- Use italics or underlining.
- If no author is given, start with the title and then write the date.
